Black Oak House is a contemporary fine art gallery in the home of Catherine Pancake, Miriam Stewart and their daughter Eliana Pancake.

Pancake is a visual and sound artist, and Stewart is a writer and pediatrician. The gallery is located in the first floor of their circa 1922 West Philadelphia house facing the historic Malcolm X Park.

Solo exhibitions are curated though studio visits with artists engaged with conceptual fine arts practices including creative research, interdisciplinary aesthetics, socio-political interventions, and genre-blurring media tactics. The gallery strongly supports the diversity of West Philadelphia with a special focus on experimentation and boundary-pushing processes by female, ethnically-diverse, and GLBTQ artists and audiences.

In addtition to regular gallery hours, Black Oak House hosts a private salon and dinner for each exhibiting artist with a documented interdisciplinary discussion and feedback from our core audience as well as invited guests.

Gallery hours are variable and will be posted on our website and social media channels. If you wish to join our mailing list please email catherine.pancake @
